October has been a very busy month. Thank you all so much for your support with the Jog-a-thon and our book fair! We raised a lot of money for our school. It was so special to meet everyone’s “special people” on the 24th. We are all so blessed to have a community of people that support our kids at Walterville.
In class we are just wrapping up a unit on natural disasters. This is always a favorite of the students. We read stories about hurricane’s, tornadoes, earthquakes and even read about a storm chaser.
In writing we learned to write vignettes. A vignette is a story that narrows in on a small moment of a bigger story. Hopefully I will have these to share with you at conferences.
We have been learning about scientific inquiry through our school garden project and Mrs. Weber will be here again tomorrow to do a follow up lesson on coding.
We are right in the middle of our crazy holiday season which means a lot of things happening at the school and days off. Please check below for news about upcoming events.
Some updates and news:
- Conferences are this week! If you do not know when your conference is please contact me as soon as possible. Conferences are scheduled this Thursday (11/6) and Friday (11/7).
- There is NO HOMEWORK the week of 11/5-11/13. We will start homework again on 11/14.
- Students should have brought home a pink paper about our new school fundraiser called Scrip. Please take a moment to look through it. Basically you can buy gift cards from Scrip and the company you buy the card through returns a certain percentage back to the school. There list is huge and there are a lot of very popular places to choose from. If you know that you shop, eat or get gas at these places often enough, consider getting the gift card through Scrip and help our school out. The next order will be going out in 2 weeks.
- We do not have school on Tuesday November 11th in honor of Veterans Day.
- We will not have school Thursday November 27th or 28th in honor of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
I hope you all have a restful long weekend and I look forward to meeting with you at our conference.
